About Yoga
Hatha Yoga is an ancient art, focused on a harmonizing system for developing the body, mind, and breath. It first appeared in India around six thousand years ago in many different forms and focuses primarily on the physical body.
Traditionally, Hatha Yoga centered around the breath and controlled breathing techniques as a path to meditation. Today, Westerners view yoga mainly as the physical postures, known as asanas. However, the aim of Hatha Yoga remains the same as always—as a tool for cultivating, nurturing, and realizing your truest essence.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga comes from Hatha Yoga. It is a disciplined method for opening the body and mind to the natural potential through conscious breathing, physical movement, and inner exploration. Vinyasa means "to place in a special way", allowing for the teacher to cultivate classes that speak directly to the specific needs of the students. The overall integrity of the class begins with the smooth conscious flow of the breath. Specific energetic actions are taught within the poses, allowing the body to move with grace in the dynamic flow of the class.
